Description

Slouchy Shoulder Bag

The Easy Bag is an oversized shoulder bag, cut simple and left unstructured so it slouches naturally when worn.

A single long strap carries the whole bag over one shoulder, and the body itself has no interfacing or stiffening inside it, so it folds and drapes rather than holding a fixed shape. The top stays open, wide enough to reach in without unfastening anything.

Cotton in a check or plain weave works well here, soft enough to let the bag slouch and fold the way it's meant to.

  • Seam allowance includedAlready drawn in.
  • 14-page guideIllustrated throughout.
  • 1.5 m (1.65 yd) of fabricThe minimum the sewing guide asks for.

How to print it

Open the file in Adobe Reader

Use the A4 or US Letter file. Adobe Reader is free, and it is the only reader that handles the size layers correctly.

Switch off the sizes you don't need

Open the layers panel on the left and leave only your size visible. You will use far less paper and ink, and the pieces are easier to cut.

Set scaling to 100%

Choose Actual Size, and make sure Fit to Page or Shrink to Fit is switched off. This is what keeps the pattern true to size.

Print page one and measure the test square

If the square measures correctly, your settings are right. If not, check the scaling and print page one again before going further.

Print the remaining pages and assemble

Line up the registration marks, tape the sheets together, and follow the assembly diagram that came with your files.

Prefer a copy shop? Use the A0 file

Hand over the A0 file and ask for 100% scale with no tiling. One sheet, no taping, nothing to assemble.
